Outside of Together For You, The Rainbow Project continues to support the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community in Northern Ireland.
Research shows that LGB&/T people are particularly vulnerable to developing mental health problems due to the homophobia, discrimination and oppression that exists within society. It is not surprising, therefore, that this community is more likely sometimes to self-harm, feel suicidal, experience depression, misuse alcohol/drugs, suffer from anxiety or develop problems with food.
Being LGB&/T, however, does not necessarily mean that you will experience poor mental health. It does mean, however, that we need to spend as much time looking after our mental health as we do with our physical health.
In addition to a range of other services, The Rainbow Project continues to facilitate a number of personal development courses, workshops and groups. They also offer:
One-to-one counselling: for lesbian, gay, bisexual &/ transgender people about their sexual orientation.
Counselling for young LGB&/T people: we have a Young Person’s Counsellor who works with those aged 14 years and over.
Couple Counselling: for lesbian, gay, bisexual &/ transgender couples wanting to explore relationship issues and problems.
Short-term family support and/or mediation: support for the parents/carers of a lesbian, gay, bisexual &/ transgender child, or the spouse of a lesbian, gay, bisexual &/ transgender person.
