MindWise is a leading mental health charity in Northern Ireland delivering over 30 services run by over 110 professional staff and 100 volunteers. With the backing of our members, we raise awareness and help more than 1,000 people each day affected by mental health issues to tackle their problems. MindWise’s mission is to transform lives and develop new visions for mental health by challenging stigma and discrimination, and providing quality services and support.
MindWise celebrated its 5th birthday in 2014; following its demerger from Rethink in 2009. Volunteering has long been at the heart of how MindWise operates. Rethink (formerly known as the National Schizophrenia Society and then Fellowship) was created by volunteers in 1970. Today, MindWise has a volunteer department and a regional volunteer co-ordinator who is responsible for effective recruitment, selection, training, management and development of all aspects of volunteering with MindWise.
In 2012 MindWise was one of 60 organisations, and only two organisations within Northern Ireland, to receive ‘The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Volunteering Award’. In 2013 MindWise became re-accredited with the Investing in Volunteers (IiV) award, this is the UK quality standard for good practice in volunteer management.www.mindwisenv.org/
