Mental Health and Wellbeing Promotion

24 Sep 2014

On the eve of World Mental Health Day, Together For You have organised a mental health and wellbeing promotional event in CastleCourt, Belfast on Thursday 9 October. The day is an opportunity for everyone to talk about mental health.

Statistics still show that one in four people in Northern Ireland will encounter some form of mental ill-health in their lifetime, yet we are still not openly talking about, or asking for help for ourselves and others.

This years’ theme for World Mental Health Day is ‘living with Schizophrenia’. Probably one of the most misunderstood mental illnesses, people with Schizophrenia often view the world differently to the rest of us, and as a result can feel frightened, anxious and confused. They often become so confused that they can feel scared themselves and loved ones can feel lost in terms of how  to access help. However people with Schizophrenia, like so many other mental illnesses, can cope well with their conditions and live full lives with the right treatments and more importantly support from friends and family.

By talking about mental health, and seeking help early for yourself or others, we start to reduce the stigma around mental ill-health.  Together For You promotes positive mental health and wellbeing through awareness raising and support services. By promoting activities that help support positive mental health and wellbeing, we aim to improve the lives of everyone in Northern Ireland long term.  Some of the activities available on the day include arts and crafts, healthy eating, music and art as well as sound and complimentary therapies.  As well as being able to take part in some of these activities it will also be an opportunity for you to find out more about the free services available under the Together For You project, funded by the Big Lottery Fund, and to take part in our short survey for a chance to win a fantastic hamper stuffed with healthy goodies and treats.

CastleCourt will be open for shopping from 9am to 9pm, however our scheduled activities will commence at 10.30am and run right through to 7pm. So why not pop down to see us, and find out more so we can all start talking about our mental health.
