CAUSE launches new training courses

29 Jan 2015

With its continuing commitment to develop innovative, high quality, carer focused training CAUSE have introduced three new half day training courses for Spring 2015.

Peer led training has always been at the heart of support that CAUSE provides and these courses have been designed with key input from carers and delivered by those who have faced many similar issues themselves.

Planning Ahead for Carers:  Changing circumstances are a feature of caring and this informative course provides support for carers to plan and make effective decisions relating to respite, housing, money or support, while also taking into account their own and loved ones’ needs.

One participant found “discussion and debate within the group” helped them and another commented that “All content relevant and applicable to me personally”

Working with Professionals: Based on the “ Triangle of Care”  initiative, this course helps carers develop clear lines of communication and accountability helping them to use assertiveness and influencing and persuading skills to work positively with those involved in their loved ones’ care.

One carer stated “This excellent course has helped me with listening skills as a carer” and for another the course had: “Given me skills and made me aware how to use them.”

Advance Directives: This course helps carers work with those they care for to enhance autonomy and choice for their loved one or improve family relationships through reduced conflict around treatment by discussing their treatment preferences.

For one carer the course had “helped them understand Advance Directives and how to prepare one” and another found "the content on a difficult subject matter excellent”.

The first courses were delivered in Belfast but further courses are planned throughout Northern Ireland during 2015.
